PUrebred & registration info
So your dog is purebred and it has papers. What the heck does that mean? Well, depending on where you get your dog from, it will most certainly mean that you will pay more for your dog irregardless of the type of breeder you get it from. The average Joe who buys pups from backyard breeders willingly pay between $200 and $800 for dogs because they are purebred and they are papered.
The sad thing is, it really doesn't matter if the dog is papered if it isn't an active working dog. Basically what many people end up getting is a high priced pet quality dog. The registering bodies (AKC, UKC, CKC) are really nothing more than that. They register dogs to keep track of the ancestry of a particular dog. Registering your dog does not bring any extra special privileges except the ability to compete your dog against other purebred dogs.
If
you do nothing with your dog besides allow it to be
your best friend and couch buddy, registering the
dog means nothing.
