BECOME A FOSTER FAMILY

Foster homes make rescue possible. A foster home is an individual or family who provides temporary care for a dog while it awaits placement in a permanent home. Becoming a foster home is the most generous and unselfish contribution one can make to rescue, and we are always seeking responsible and reliable foster families. The number of Labs in rescue at any given time is determined by the number of foster homes we have. We never pull a dog out of a shelter without having a place for that dog to go.

Fostering a Lab can last from a few weeks to a few months depending on the dog. Some dogs come to us ready for a new home, others require some basic training and socialization before placement. Each dog coming into rescue is first temperment evaluated.

This person works in tandum with the foster to see to it that the dog is altered, vaccinated, has any medical issues taken care of, and evaluates the dog for placement in a foster home. Dogs are matched carefully with foster homes and their ability to provide care. We need a wide range of foster homes...from those who provide kennel space and basic care to those who will bring a foster Lab into their home, make them a part of the family, and provide them with needed training and socialization.

CMLRN will provide reimbursement for food costs (though donations of these basics are always welcome and appreciated) to fosters whenever possible. All we ask is that foster homes are willing to invest their time, love, and some space in their home.

While the dog is in foster care, placement representatives will screen prospective adopters, make home visits, and attempt to find the perfect match for your foster dog. You will be asked to keep CMLRN appraised of your foster dogs personality traits and any information that prospective homes might need.

Please print and fill out our foster home application and one of our rescue coordinators will contact you to begin the approval process. Being a foster parent does not need to be a long term commitment. While foster homes willing to take in a continuous stream of dogs are of course a dream come true, we are just as thrilled with the assistance provided by the foster home who only takes in a dog one time.
